Increases issuance of EB-5 visas for Brazilians

According to a report from the US Department of Travel and Tourism, Brazil is among the countries that most require the EB-5 visa, one of the fastest ways to win the green card for those who have the money to invest. In 2017, 282 permissions were granted to Brazilians. The Chinese maintained leadership in this area with 7,567 permits and the Vietnamese, secondly obtained 471 visas of this type.

EB-5 is a visa category for foreigners wishing to move to the United States. To acquire it you need to invest, from $500,000 in a business that manages ten jobs for Americans in two years. The approved investor receives the green card that is also awarded to their spouse and to unmarried children up to the age of 21 who can work, compete for college scholarships, or have free tuition in early childhood education in the US, for example.

Among the reasons for the growing number of Brazilians who choose to invest in the EB-5 visa are mainly the country’s political and economic uncertainties.

EB-5 and the path to the green card

Scheduled for readjustment for September of this year, the EB-5 investment visa is now the fastest way to get the American residency. The change in the value of the investment is in the hands of the US Congress.

Created to direct investments to less favored regions of the US, the program was dormant until the economic crisis of 2008. In 2003, for example, only 65 visas were granted in this modality; in 2012, there were 11 thousand. In 2015, only 34 such permits were issued to Brazilians. The number reached 150 in 2016, and the 282 mark last year.
