Arquitectonica Plans Pedestrian Bridge at Entrance to South Beach

The city of Miami Beach is contemplating a design by Arquitectonica for a pedestrian bridge over the main entrance to South Beach from the MacArthur Causeway. When the project is complete, it will allow pedestrians to go from the South of Fifth baywalk to a new park proposed at 5th and Alton. The bridge is part of a development that includes a 510-foot tower.

The proposal, set for review in May by the city’s Design Review Board, includes two options on the south side and another one on the north side.

The first option on the south would require a long, winding walk up a ramp, while the second option is for an elevator to be built. The north side does not appear to be directly connected. In its place, a ramp would lead into the new park.
