Simkins Proposes Building Mixed-Use Village in Overtown Culture & Entertainment District

In partnership with Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency, developer Michael Simkins is going to redevelop and enhance the historic Overtown area.

The deal is set to be confirmed next week when the CRA board votes on it. Three bidders turned in proposals for the land, with the selection committee choosing Simkins’ proposal to build a mixed-use village within the Overtown Culture and Entertainment District.

To bring this master plan to fruition, Simkins’ Overtown Associates, LLC is going to buy 14 parcels, but only on the premise that they are developed based on the CRA’s adopted master plan.

As agreed, Simkins’ company is going to transfer the title to four parcels and make a cash payment.

A Dec. 16 CRA meeting has been scheduled to sanction the details.

Simkins is in the process of developing the Miami Innovation District, where he owns land and property.
