More Improvements Coming to Fort Lauderdale Airport

The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will soon fully live up to its moniker. Renovations already started, and is one of the largest ever performed by airports in the country. As of December 19, Concourse G of Terminal 4 has gained new boarding gates along with a coffee shop, newsstand and gift shop. The place now has higher ceiling, more natural lighting and a modern architectural style. By the end of 2018, there will be more restaurants including a Burger King, Kafe Kalik and A Taste of the Caribbean.

The space has new seats and places to recharge electronics, spacious bathrooms and at the end of this month the Customs and Border Protection collection area will be opened making customs easier for international travelers that with other improvements, expediting the screening of international travelers arriving at the airport. Terminal 4 with Spirit Airlines services, Jet Blue and many international airlines also will gain many needed improvements.

The airport’s refurbishment projects are part of an ongoing $2.3 billion capital improvement project that included the expansion of the Federal Highway that was completed in 2014.

The airport plans to include a hotel next to the terminals, reconfiguration of the road leading to the airport to reduce traffic congestion in front of the terminals and larger areas of cell phone chargers. Also included in the expansions are corridors linking one terminal to the other that improves accessibility and safety for passengers who can move freely between the four different terminals. The change will also allow passengers to move from one terminal to another without having to re-enter security for the different terminal.

In 2018, the airport will witness a faster growth than any other country for the next 20 years. The renovation of Terminal 2 and 3 is still underway and will feature more shops and restaurants to modernize the spaces. The first connector between Terminals 3 and 4 has been in operation since November 2016, as well as new stores at the terminals.
