Brazilians spent $9.5 billion overseas in the first semester of 2018

Brazilians who traveled abroad spent a total of $9.57 billion in the first half of this year, an increase of 8.7% compared to the same period last year. The Central Bank of Brazil released the data. This is the highest level of spending abroad between January and June since 2015 when they spent $9.95 billion. The least spending was 2016, at $6.53 billion.

Foreign tourists who came to Brazil in the first half spent the $3.24 billion, an increase of 5.94% over last year. This number is the highest for the period since 2014, the year the country hosted the World Cup.

The Brazilian trade balance was positive in June: $5.5 billion. There was a decrease compared to the same month of 2017 due to the increase in imports of goods.

The number of flights to Europe reached a record in the first half, according to data from Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency). There were almost 13,000 departures in the period. For the United States, the numbers were similar, an average of 74 departures per day in Brazil and the USA. There were also increased flights to Argentina and Chile.
