Amazon executives reportedly returned to Miami for another HQ2 visit

Miami recently received a second visit of Amazon’s executives looking for possible areas for its substantial second headquarters (HQ2), said anonymous sources to South Florida Business Journal. The tour was essential to put the city among a few still left in the running for the HQ2. Amazon finished its site visits for HQ2 in May, and little news comes out about follow-up visits.

Some may not believe in Miami’s potential to win the battle against cities like Boston and Washington, D.C., for example, due to its lack of a more significant technology workforce or top-rated universities. While others tried to point out the city’s advantage and possible best fit for the HQ2: strong international business, busy airports and seaports, transportation network and diversity. Another point to Miami: there is no personal income tax, contrary to most of the other competing states.

The company had said that the project would be a $5 billion investment with 50,000 employees over the long term. One of the sources reported that the executives took a closer look at the Park West/Overtown neighborhood on the north side of downtown Miami. The decision should be announced in December.
