P-Lot Park: South Beach will receive a new 5.8-acre park soon

The city of Miami Beach will soon receive a new park in South Beach, in the 5.8-acre that was being occupied by the construction crew working at the Convention Center. For now, the park is being called the P-Lot Park. According to a memo recently released by city manager Jimmy Morales, construction documents have been completed and are promptly in the process of permitting.

West8, a landscape architecture company, it’s responsible for designing the new park, they also developed Miami Beach Soundscape next to the New World Symphony. In November, contractors will receive an invitation to start bidding for construction. Groundbreaking is scheduled for the second quarter of 2019, according to Morales.

The park should be ready by the fall of next year, prioritizing Design Miami, a furniture show held in December; the park was designed with more open space and fewer trees to accommodate the annual event. The fair has paid $107,000 for rent to the city to lease the area for two months in 2017.
