Virgin Hotels is coming to Brickell with micro and co-living units

Brickell is getting a new mix-use hotel and co-living development, and Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson is behind the deal. The 40-story Virgin Hotels tower will feature a 3-story rooftop lounge and pool that will be open to the public. Other hotels by the brand are spread over the country in Dallas, Chicago, and San Francisco.

“In addition to being my home, Miami is the headquarters of Virgin Hotels, so this is a milestone that has been a long time coming,” Virgin Hotels CEO Raul Leal said in a statement.

The development will have 15 floors of furnished residential space with 150 apartments, including micro-units (under 400 square feet) and co-living units with three to four bedrooms. Residents will have access to shared living space and kitchens, and will also be allowed to use hotel amenities. A car elevator system is proposed for parking.

The project will be developed at 1040 S. Miami Ave, right across Brickell Flatiron, one of Miami’s tallest towers, and a block away from Mary Brickell Village and two blocks from Brickell City Centre. The completion is expected by 2023, with groundbreaking scheduled to 2020. 

The hotel will have 250 rooms and approximately 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The terraced lounge will be built to be the “crown jewel,” with a design to feel like a conservatory. Other amenities includes a Funny Library Coffee Shop, a beer garden live music venue, spa, a Commons Club restaurant, bar, and social club.

BLUR Workshop of Atlanta is the architect with Blue Jay Capital of Key Biscayne as the developer. A second Virgin Hotels is planned in South Beach.
